Territory Friday Favorites: Ben Gibbard's Playlist
We've got some new tunes to check out just in time for your weekend adventures! Ultra runner and musician Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service) shares what's on his playlist these days.
I tend to only reach for music when deep into a long race/adventure effort. I like to dangle music in front of myself like a carrot; “Okay Gibbard, get to mile 75 and THEN you get your precious tunes!” At this point I reach for long, repetitive, usually instrumental stuff as I find that short pop songs mark time TOO well. I want to to get lost in the music, not have it remind me of how far I still need to go.
Krautrock, Dub, and Cinematic Electronic music tends to be my go-to’s. Here’s a hodge podge of my fav’s for bounding down the trail when your legs want you to quit.
