SUNSETS AND SUNRISES
(Jobie Williams) - Zoë Rom - Grace, Gratitude and Sunsets I love being surprised by sunsets. I was bundled up in layers of fleece and flannel, pressing my bare feet into cooling, exposed granite high in an alpine cirque in Montana. A sudden glow cast against the shiny flecksof mica in the rock caught my attention, directing it skyward to an unexpected display - billowy clouds colliding with brilliant red light and each other to form a dramatic, whirling landscape. Reds, oranges and pinks elbowed each other and shifted from one hue to another, reflecting the sun’s luminous denouement on glowing alpine granite. My breath caught in my throat, and I crouched frozen, arrested by the vista’ commanding beauty. I was afraid to look away for fear that I would miss some intricate interplay of light and cloud and that the moment would vanish and be gone, though that is the very nature of sunsets. They’re ephemeral, fleeting. Captivating in one moment and vanished in a flash of light, cloud and rock in another. Though it’s something that happens everyday, I’m constantly caught off guard...
