My favorite places to run near where I live are the countless trails in the Cascades and Olympics. My favorite trail destination is Chamonix Mont Blanc in the French Alps.
I run to find balance and clarity amongst the chatter of everyday life. Being on the trail gives me space to breathe, think, and realize what’s important. It’s also a fun way to meet like-minded folks and challenge myself both mentally and physically.
One of my biggest challenges with running has been learning how to find a balance between training and recovery. It’s easy for me to get caught up in defining success by metrics like mileage or pace. I’ve learned that success is actually taking time to listen to my body and what it needs, whether that’s hydrating, taking an off day, or going out for an easy jog with friends.
